LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (July 29, 2024)—The Kentuckiana Regional Planning and Development Agency (KIPDA), in conjunction with its local government partners, recently launched the Kentuckiana Regional Safety Action Plan. These planning efforts will result in the most robust transportation safety analysis the Louisville region has likely ever seen.
The plan is actually 17 plans in one:
One regional plan that assesses crash trends throughout the nine-county KIPDA Region (Bullitt, Henry, Jefferson, Oldham, Shelby, Spencer, and Trimble counties in Kentucky plus Clark and Floyd counties in Indiana) plus
There will be a local plan for each of the nine counties and for seven municipalities (Charlestown, Clarksville, Jeffersontown, Jeffersonville, Mt. Washington, St. Matthews, and Shepherdsville). Each local plan will identify crash trends unique to the jurisdiction. This analysis will identify high crash locations and trends related to crash types.
This project is funded through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Program. The SS4A Program provides grants to local communities for planning and, ultimately, for projects that strive to prevent deaths and serious injuries on the road. The federal funding is matched with local funds from the participating jurisdictions and by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. The planning efforts are scheduled to be completed by Q2 2025.
Public feedback to help identify traffic safety issues is being sought. The QR code below connects the user to a website where anyone can post a location where they have a traffic safety concern.
