Tenure set to begin Nov. 1
MAYSVILLE, Ky. (Oct. 15, 2024)—Kevin Cornette, a former economic development supervisor at the Buffalo Trace Area Development District (BTADD), will return to the agency Nov. 1 as its executive director, following the retirement of Amy Kennedy earlier this year.
Cornette returns after a 10-year stint as superintendent of the Fleming County Water Association. He began his career at BTADD in May 2000, serving in multiple roles, including community development planner and GIS manager, before ultimately becoming the agency’s economic development supervisor.
“I’m excited to return to BTADD and appreciate the BTADD Board of Directors for the opportunity and their confidence in my abilities to be successful in this position,” Cornette said. “The region has become a special place to me and my family, living here for the past 27 years. I’m excited to return to be a small part of a great team at BTADD that works every day to make a positive impact on the quality of life across our region.”
BTADD—one of 15 Area Development Districts throughout Kentucky—is a regional planning and development organization that partners with local governments, businesses, and community organizations throughout Bracken, Fleming, Lewis, Mason and Robertson counties.
During his tenure as BTADD executive director, Cornette plans to prioritize regional cooperation and collaboration. He emphasized the importance of engaging with community stakeholders to address the area’s needs.
“I will take every opportunity to network with our local officials, businesses and residents across the region to listen and learn the needs and concerns of the communities,” Cornette added. “I will be hands-on, attending local meetings and actively participating in the events of our communities.”
Robertson County Attorney and BTADD Board Chairman Jesse Melcher expressed confidence in Cornette’s leadership.
“BTADD believes Kevin will assess the strengths and weaknesses of BTADD and strive to overcome any current shortcomings while enhancing its strengths to better serve the communities it supports,” Melcher said. “Kevin’s proven experience and dedication will be invaluable as we move forward.”
In addition to his full-time work, Cornette serves as an associate pastor at Vanceburg Baptist Church in Vanceburg, Kentucky, and volunteers with Jehovah Jireh House Food Distribution Ministry as well as God’s Pantry in Morehead, helping to meet the hunger needs of the area. He and his wife, Sandy, reside in Tollesboro, Kentucky. The couple has two grown daughters, Kendra (Jeremy) McCann and Whitney (Zachary) Burton.
