State funding will support water system improvements in Smithland and Oak Grove

Grant applications written by the Pennyrile Area Development District have secured more than $3.16 million in state funding for water system improvements in the City of Smithland and the City of Oak Grove through the Kentucky Water and Wastewater Assistance for Troubled or Economically Restrained Systems Program, known as KY WWATERS.

The City of Smithland was awarded $1,164,665 for disinfection byproduct mitigation and other system improvements. The project is intended to address water quality needs, improve system reliability and serve residents and businesses.

The City of Oak Grove received $2 million for the Kentucky Highway 115 North and Carneal Lane waterline extension and water tank project. The project is intended to expand and strengthen water service in a growing area of Christian County.

Pennyrile Area Development District works with local governments and utility providers to plan for infrastructure needs, pursue funding and carry out projects throughout the region. The awards demonstrate how state investment and local leadership can support long-term growth, public health and quality of life across the Pennyrile.
