The Purchase Area Development District played a key role in bringing a new home for the arts to downtown Murray, securing $1 million in Community Development Block Grant funding and $150,000 in additional grant support on behalf of the Calloway County Fiscal Court to finance the project.

The funding helped make possible the Murray Art Guild’s new headquarters at 500 N. Fourth St., which celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony March 6, drawing more than 500 guests.

Attendees browsed artwork in various media, watched studio demonstrations and sampled food prepared by culinary arts students from the Area Technology Center.

Following a welcome address by Executive Director Debi Danielson, she was surprised with the honorary title of Kentucky Colonel, presented by Catie Bates Robertson and Dr. Brad Robertson.

The celebration continued that evening with an opening reception for the building’s inaugural exhibition, featuring pottery by Murray artist Wayne Bates.

The new facility is intended to serve as a hub for arts programming and community engagement in the region.
