Fulton County expands housing opportunities through disaster recovery project

Fulton County is taking an important step toward rebuilding its housing stock following the December 10, 2021 tornado disaster. Through a partnership between the Fulton County Fiscal Court and Community Ventures, a nonprofit housing developer, the county was awarded $2 million in Community Development Block Grant–Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funding to construct 10 new single-family homes. The Purchase Area Development District (PADD) assisted Fulton County throughout the project development and grant process, supporting the county's efforts to secure funding and advance the housing project.

Seven homes will be built in the newly established Cannonball Run Subdivision in Cayce, with three additional homes constructed on scattered sites throughout Fulton County. Community Ventures will also utilize Kentucky Housing Corporation's Rural Housing Trust Fund financing to help keep the homes affordable. Eligible homebuyers must have household incomes at or below 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI) and will receive homebuyer counseling to support long-term financial stability and successful homeownership.

A groundbreaking for the Cannonball Run Subdivision was held Aug. 12, with construction expected to begin in September. Once completed, the project will provide critically needed housing, expand affordable homeownership opportunities and help Fulton County continue its long-term recovery from the 2021 disaster.
