Jennifer Wilson joined the Kentuckiana Regional Planning & Development Agency (KIPDA) in November 2021 as an intern in the Community and Economic Development Division while completing her Master of Urban Planning. After graduating, she transitioned to a full-time role on the CED team — and in just four years, she has made a lasting impact across the KIPDA region.

Jennifer has played a key role in securing funding and advancing projects that benefit communities throughout the region. Her work has contributed to several notable initiatives, including the “Grounds for Growth” brownfields program, funded by a $1.5 million EPA Brownfield Assessment Coalition Grant; Community Development Block Grant funding for an urgent care and primary care clinic in Trimble and Carroll counties; Kentucky Heritage Council America250KY funding for the restoration of the Henry County Odd Fellows Washington Lodge No. 1513; and Kentucky Division of Water 319(h) nonpoint source pollution funding to develop a watershed plan for the Hardy Creek-Little Kentucky Watershed in Trimble County, among others.

Through her dedication and expertise, Jennifer continues to drive meaningful progress and strengthen the communities KIPDA serves.

Q: What is the most significant success story you have experienced while working at KIPDA?

A: Right now, I'm assisting Shelby County with a brownfields project to remediate contaminants at the former Jailer's Residence on Washington Street in Shelbyville. Funded by a Cleaner Commonwealth Grant through the Kentucky Brownfield Program, the project will leave the building a clean slate, ready for redevelopment as office space or other uses. It's the first step in restoring a significant historic resource in Shelbyville's downtown commercial district.

Q: What is a fun fact about you that your colleagues might not know?

A: I have a retired racing greyhound named Turbo Callahan and a Great Dane named Rex.

Q: What is your favorite hobby or activity outside of work?

A: I love sewing, knitting, crocheting and all kinds of fiber arts.

Q: You lived in Japan for seven years. What do you miss most about Japanese culture?

A: There are many things I miss, but the first that comes to mind is being able to hop on a subway, local train or bullet train at any time and go anywhere on a whim. The trains are so clean, convenient and easy to navigate. I can't wait until the planned Louisville-to-Chicago Amtrak line is restored!
