CVADD staff join celebration featuring games, mock races and hat competition

The Laurel County Older Persons Activities Center brought local seniors together May 13 for a festive Derby Day celebration featuring carnival games, bingo, mock horse races and creative Derby hat competitions in honor of one of Kentucky’s most beloved traditions.
Staff from Cumberland Valley Area Development District (CVADD) assisted with event set-up and activities, helping ensure the day was enjoyable and engaging for all attendees. The celebration offered older adults an opportunity to socialize, stay active and strengthen community connections in a welcoming environment.
Events like Derby Day play a meaningful role in combating social isolation among older adults, encouraging engagement and connection that contribute to long-term physical and mental health. The Laurel County Older Persons Activities Center remains a vital resource for older residents through recreational programming, fellowship opportunities and supportive services that enhance quality of life across the community.
CVADD looks forward to continuing its support of senior programming and community events throughout the region in the months ahead.
