April 29 event offered education, resources and community connections for caregivers
Caregivers had the opportunity to gain knowledge, resources and support at a caregiver training and Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program appreciation event hosted by Cumberland Valley Area Development District.
The event took place Wednesday, April 29. It was organized and hosted by Rachel Maggard, family caregiver coordinator, and Sarah Smith, district long-term care ombudsman.
The training was designed to empower caregivers with practical tools and information to better support those in their care. Whether caring for a loved one at home, working in a professional caregiving role or serving in a long-term care setting, attendees benefited from expert insights and community connections.
A featured highlight of the event was presentations from the Alzheimer's Association covering memory care, disease progression and strategies for supporting individuals living with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia. The event also recognized and honored volunteers of the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program.
In addition to educational sessions, participants had access to free community resources aimed at easing the challenges of caregiving — support intended to extend well beyond the day of the event.
The caregiver training and Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program appreciation event underscored Cumberland Valley ADD's commitment to supporting caregivers and strengthening community care networks throughout the region.
