A welding candidate with 17 years of experience is already headed to an interview

Derek Poor, veterans transition liaison for the Pennyrile Area Development District, represented the region last month at the RecruitMilitary Fort Campbell Hiring Event, connecting transitioning service members, veterans and military spouses with career opportunities in western Kentucky.
The event drew employers from across the county alongside local resource partners and installation representatives.
Among the standout connections Poor made was a candidate with 17 years of welding and manufacturing experience whose background closely matched the needs of a local employer. An interview has already been scheduled.
Events like this give transitioning service members direct access to recruiters, a chance to build professional networks and the opportunity to explore a range of career paths in a single setting — while also offering a practical environment to sharpen interview skills and gauge current workforce demands.
Poor said he was grateful for the opportunity to support regional employers and strengthen the ADD’s relationships with the military community as it works to connect skilled talent with jobs across the Pennyrile region and surrounding counties.
