High school students lift seniors' spirits with handmade cards through a Western Kentucky suicide prevention initiative

Participants at the Christian County Senior Center recently received a special surprise when Pennyrile Area Development District’s Suicide Prevention Task Force Coordinator Marcie O’Neal visited to deliver handmade greeting cards from an intergenerational community project.
The card project was organized by the Western Kentucky Senior Suicide Prevention Network and brought together students and older adults through a simple but meaningful act of kindness. BETA Club members from high schools across the region decorated cards with colorful designs and heartfelt messages, hoping to brighten the day of local seniors.
The thoughtful gesture was warmly received by senior center participants, who were delighted to receive the handmade creations. The project not only provided a cheerful reminder that others are thinking of them, but also helped foster connections between generations and strengthen community ties.
By bringing young people and older adults together in a positive and uplifting way, the project highlighted the power of small acts of kindness to make a lasting impact.
