Big Sandy ADD hosts 38th Annual Big Sandy Senior Games
Popular multi-day event draws seniors from Floyd, Johnson, Magoffin, Martin, and Pike counties

The Big Sandy Area Development District (BSADD) recently celebrated its 38th Annual Big Sandy Senior Games, a popular multi-day event drawing seniors from Floyd, Johnson, Magoffin, Martin, and Pike counties. The annual games coincide with Older Americans Month each May, emphasizing physical wellness, social interaction, and community pride among the region's senior residents.
Festivities kicked off May 9 with indoor competitions at the Bowl Rite Bowling Center in Prestonsburg. Participants aged 50 and above competed in various events, showcasing their skills and fostering camaraderie across county lines.
The outdoor portion of the games occurred on May 23 on the downstream recreation area of Dewey Lake at Jenny Wiley State Resort Park, featuring events like a one-mile walk, football toss, softball toss, horseshoes, free-throw shooting, corn hole, and shuffleboard.
"We are celebrating another successful year with senior games that were filled with laughter, cheers, teamwork, determination, and unforgettable moments," said BSADD Director of Aging Services Stacy Hall.
Medals will be awarded to first-, second-, and third-place finishers in all categories on June 4 at the awards banquet, recognizing the competitive spirit and athletic achievements of the participants.
